Old World Designs Story

Linda Mendenhall purchased Old World Designs in 1991.   Originally at Allied Arts, we have been on Santa Cruz Avenue since 2002.  Linda brings fun to any endeavor and has an amazing eye for color and design.

We are a full service needlepoint shop with hand painted canvases across many subjects, a scrumptious array of fibers from traditional wools and cottons to yummy silks, metallics, and vegan fibers, and all sorts of fun tools and accessories.  Classes, private and group, are available for every level of stitcher.  Beginners start with a 1 hour private lesson.  Join us Thursday or Friday for weekly stitch-ins with fellow needlepointers.

If you are pressed for time, we can create a stitch guide for your canvas and even have it stitched by expert needlepointers.  When you have completed your piece we would love to help you have it fabricated.  Take a look at our Fabrication Gallery for inspiration.

Create art and relieve stress with needlepoint at the Old World Gal Corral.

Suzanne - lifelong stitcher

Suzanne's grandmother and mother always had a "handwork" piece with them from huck toweling, to embroidery and crewel, to bargello and needlepoint.  At a young age Suzanne began handwork and became entranced by needlepoint in high school.  Her first big project was Ling Ling (one of the 2 pandas gifted to the National Zoo from China); she finished the panda in the mid 70's but never did the background until she was over 40!  You can find Suzanne in the shop Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays; she loves to teach - beginners to expert stitchers.  If you're lucky, you'll meet her service dog puppy in training.
