Old world designs story

Our Shop

Linda Mendenhall purchased Old World Designs in 1991. Originally at Allied Arts, we have been on Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park since 2002.

We are a full-service needlepoint shop with hand-painted canvases across many subjects, a scrumptious array of fibers, and all sorts of fun tools and accessoriesClasses, private and group, are available for every level of stitcher. Join us Thursday or Friday for weekly stitch-ins with fellow needlepointers.

If you are pressed for time, we can create a stitch guide for your canvas and even have it stitched by expert needlepointers. When you have completed your piece we would love to help you have it fabricated. Take a look at our Fabrication Gallery for inspiration.

Create art and relieve stress with needlepoint at the Old World Gal Corral.

Cammie

Cammie

Cammie learned embroidery during her childhood stitching pillowcases, tea towels, and calendars with sparkly sequins. She learned needlepoint in high school and has been addicted ever since!  She loves learning new stitches and taking classes, but her favorite part about needlepoint is the community of stitchers whom inspire her daily.

Carolyn

Carolyn loves to stitch and is always taking classes to improve her knowledge.  Her range of projects runs from ornaments, to stunning purses, to landscapes for framing, to large pillows. Carolyn enjoys sharing her knowledge of color, stitches and design.  You can find her in the shop most Mondays and Thursdays when she isn't traveling the world.

Chris

Chris is never without a stitching project  She has an innate sense of color and expertly chooses stitches, always achieving just the effect she seeks. Four grandsons and a granddaughter guarantee a steady stream of Christmas ornament projects with several large projects a year added for good measure.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth began needlepointing as a graduate student to stay awake during long, evening experiments and fell in love with the craft. With an eye for color, she loves exploring different fibers, stitches, and techniques to enhance a project. You can often find her stitching canvases with cats for herself or creating gifts for family and friends.

Jane

Jane is an avid needlepoint enthusiast who takes any class she can possibly fit into her schedule. She loves to share her crafting knowledge as she continues to learn and refresh tips, tricks, and techniques. Seeing customers' work makes her day and she invites you to share your current or past projects anytime!

Julie

Julie loves to stitch.  She always has a project going and finishes an astonishing number of pieces each year - what a lucky family!  Come into the shop on most Tuesdays or Wednesdays and Julie will be happy to help you choose a canvas, pull threads and embark on your creative path.

Shari

Shari learned to stitch as a child and recently rekindled her love of the artform - the designs, the threads, the colors! She brings her organization skills and attention to detail to everything she does and is ready to help you with your needlepointing needs.

Suzanne

Suzanne began handwork at a young age and became entranced by needlepoint in high school. Her first big project was the giant panda Ling Ling; she finished the panda in the mid 70's but didn't finish the background until she was over 40!  Along the way, she has stitched ornaments, holiday decorations, pillows, book covers, birth announcements, wedding gifts, and more.
